into the improbable
The Peculiar Naturalist is a small imaginary institution: an office of curious inventions, a night conservatory, a postal service that operates only between dusk and dawn.
Its records are assembled from public-domain plates held by the Biodiversity Heritage Library, the Wellcome Collection, the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress — engravings drawn by hand, long before photography could manage a moth.
Every composition is original work. The source of each plate is recorded and credited on the print itself.
